free things to do in la 2018

Home sweet home. ♥  There are so many reasons why I’m happy to call LA my home. I’ve been living here my entire life and I still never get bored! There’s so much to see and do, from outdoorsy activities, to urban city life and of course, the endless stretch of breathtaking beaches. So today on the blog, I’m sharing my top free things to do in Los Angeles! Whether you’re looking for arts, culture, or some insta-worthy attractions, I’ve got you covered at $0 dollars ;) So keep scrolling and thank me later!

Getty Museum

Free things to do in LA

One of LA’s best free attractions, with panoramic city views, a beautiful garden, and all kinds of works of art such as paintings, sculptures and architecture. You could spend hours exploring the property. Take in the breathtaking views, take a stroll in the gardens, snap some photos, grab lunch at the restaurant, and spend the afternoon exploring their impressive art collection with paintings by Van Gogh, Monet, and Cezzanne to name a few.

Griffith Observatory

If you want to experience one of the most stellar views of LA, then Griffith Observatory is the place to go! Amongst the amazing views, the observatory also has exhibits, telescopes and a planetarium with 8-10 live shows everyday. After visiting the observatory, you can explore Griffith Park which is right across the parking lot and offers some of the city’s best outdoor trails. Whether you’re looking to exercise or go for a mellow hike, there are tons of trails around the park.

Barnsdall Art Park

This unique park has a lot more to offer than the usual stroll. It’s more of a recreational centre that has cultural, artistic, and historic architecture that you can’t find at just any park. It sits on the top of Olive Hill featuring breathtaking views of the city and the Hollywood Sign, plus an art gallery and art workshops every Sunday, all free of charge! In the summer months, the park has tons of free events such as wine tastings, cultural events, and cinema nights.

Pasadena City Hall

Pasadena City Hall is one of the most iconic landmarks in the city, influenced by a combination of Italian Renaissance and Spanish Colonial style. It also serves as a hotspot for filmmakers, making appearances in Mission:Impossible, Charlie Chaplin’s “The Great Dictator,” and “A Walk in the Clouds,” with Keanu Reeves.

Santa Monica Boardwalk

Santa Monica Points of Interest Georgian Hotel Historic

This popular tourist attraction has the best of both worlds, the beach where you can take a dip and sunbathe, and just across the street, you can get the city vibe with tons of shopping, dining, and entertainment. Along the boardwalk, you can find historic buildings like the famous Georgian Hotel that dates way back to 1933.

LACMA

Whether it’s your first visit in LA or you’ve been living here for a while, you may recognize these lights from one of your friends IG photos! This urban light installation is hard to miss, 202 lights means lots of photo opportunities. It stands right outside LACMA (Los Angeles County Museum of Art) and is a beautiful sight, especially at night. If you make your way to the back of LACMA, you’ll find another cool attraction called the Levitated Mass. Also hard to miss..a massive 340-ton rock placed on top of a walkway, another insta-worthy moment you won’t want to miss! Now for the actual museum, there are days when general admission is free including the second Tuesday of every month and on select holidays. See more information on how you can visit the museum free of charge here.

The Broad Museum

The Broad has been all the hype since it opened it’s doors in mid-September. Not only does the museum offer free admission, but there are tons of interesting exhibits that have come to the museum in the past few months. Although these special exhibits require tickets, you can still choose to enjoy the museum’s gallery of 2,000 art works for free. When you’re ready to visit the Broad, you’ll want to reserve your free tickets online through this link – just pick a time and you’re good to go!

Farmers Market At The Grove

LA’s Original Farmers Market is the ultimate market experience for foodies. This market has over 100 gourmet vendors, restaurants, and grocers in an outdoor setting with a nice ambiance and tons of room to walk around. I’m talking everything from empanadas, steak sandwiches, BBQ, fresh pastries and espresso in waffle cones!! The best part is the market is attached to the Grove, so you can enjoy a completely different atmosphere just a few steps away.

DTLA Grand Central Market

Grand central market downtown la best food

Grand Central Market is one of my favorite places to explore, smell, and taste! It’s a food hall experience you won’t want to miss! From multicultural food stands to handcrafted ice cream, it’s a food hall experience that shows you the LA food scene like no other! Hungry or not, it’s almost impossible to leave this place without getting a craving, so come prepared and by that I mean hungry ha! The market is located in the heart of downtown on Broadway, so you can continue exploring downtown and walk off that Belcampo burger you just ate.
